Bill Pittman, DeRoyal's President and Chief Operating Officer, has announced his plan to retire at the end of the first quarter of 2016, after a career spanning 32 years with the company. Mr. Pittman will take over the investment property portfolio that he and his father have developed under the brand Pittman Properties. Mr. Pittman began his career as an account manager, relocating to Columbus, Ohio, where he became DeRoyal's sales trainer and specialist in the territory. He returned home to the corporate office as a product manager focusing on new product development and went on to serve tenures in the Marketing, OEM and Orthopedic divisions as Vice-President, becoming the company's President in 2009. In 2010, he was named President and Chief Operating Officer.Mr. Pittman's prolific career includes spearheading the successful development and launch of hundreds of healthcare products, notably DeRoyal's burn products, surgical accessories, laparoscopic accessories and Continuum, a medical device dispensing, billing and reordering system. He is also the holder of 7 U.S. patents with others pending at the time of his retirement. Most significantly, Mr. Pittman focused on expanding DeRoyal's presence internationally, and under his leadership, the company now has sales in more than 70 countries."Being a part of DeRoyal during the last three plus decades has been a life-shaping experience that I treasure," said Mr. Pittman. A symposium discussing applications and business opportunities in technical textiles was held in Taipei, with experts from different countries attending.The three-day event, co-organized by the Taiwan Technical Textile Association and the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI). The forum this year carries the theme “Green and Innovation” and was attended by companies and organizations from Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Russia, Belarus and Taiwan China. “Technical textiles have successfully raised Taiwan's image in the world's textile arena, with products winning the business and trust of overseas customers,” said Jwo Ching-ming, chairman of Taiwan Technical Textile Association. “Technical textile manufacturing has led to a transformation of Taiwan's textile industry and plays a critical role in ensuring Taiwan's economic growth,” said Wang Yea-kang, chairman of TTRI.Technical textiles have applications in a wide array of industries including transportation, sports and leisure, environmental protection, medicine, construction, civil engineering, packaging and dairy and husbandry. Last year, Taiwan's total technical textile production value was about a third of the NT$500 billion for the entire textile industry, and the production value is expected to reach NT$230 billion in 2015.
